Kentucky Golf Course Review
Cherry Blossom Golf Course & Country Club is situated in Central Kentucky's premier master planned community, Cherry Blossom Village, located just minutes from Lexington. The 178-acre golf course was created by world-renowned golf course architect Clyde Johnson and respected golf course builder Danny McQueen. This 6842 yard par 72 layout has been voted by Golf Week as the "#1 public golf course in the state of Kentucky for 2004 - 2008."
The gorgeous Clubhouse features a fully stocked pro shop. Snack bar open 9am till 6pm every day, and a full service restaurant and bar open from 11am till 9pm Monday thru Saturday. The friendly staff strives to provide exceptional services that exceed all expectations. Practice facilities include a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker, and two large putting greens.
The cart paths are paved throughout the course and include yardage markers from 100, 150, and 200 yards to the center of each green. All carts include ProLink Prostar GPS with accurate hole locations and measurements to the pin from anywhere on the course. Four sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 6842 yards/136 slope, 6452 yards/132 slope, 6004 yards/128 slope, and 5016 yards with a slope of 123 for women who play from the forward tees.
As the slopes indicate, this is a difficult golf course for players of all skill levels. There is not much advantage for golfers who play from the closer tee boxes as the main challenge on this layout is actually the rough. Not just hitting out of it, but finding a golf ball can cause frustration in this tall, thick, deep, swirling bent grass. Hitting fairways and greens is all the more important at Cherry Blossom. The green complexes sit on fairly flat ground without much elevation, mounding, or sand to disrupt a confident approach. Hit the fairways and you can score well here - as good shots are rewarded.
Bunkering is not overstated as there are only 15 sand traps on the front nine. The 438 yard par four 18th is the course's most memorable golf hole, lined by water on the right from tee to green with nine bunkers guarding the landing zones. There are a total of 38 sculpted white sand bunkers, and water comes into play on 8 holes.
