Kentucky Golf Course Review

Twin Oaks Golf & Plantation Club - Kentucky Golf

Twin Oaks Golf & Plantation Club, in Covington, is a 6382 yard par 70 championship golf course which was built in 1927. This is one of the finest public courses in the area with affordable rates and a beautiful view of the mountainous region.  The Magnolia Room located in the Plantation Club is a very popular banquet facility in the area and hosts a wedding reception almost weekly. All the flavor of a Southern Christmas is displayed during the holiday season and it is a favorite spot for Christmas parties and group luncheons.

There are three sets of tee boxes with distances and slopes measuring 6382 yards/121 slope from the tips, 6045 yards/118 slope, and 5001 yards from the front tees with a slope of 105 or 112 for woman. As the slopes indicate, this is a fair and player friendly course for golfers of any skill level. Although the total yardage is not overwhelming, the layout plays to a par 70 with only two par fives and there are six par fours of over 400 yards-four on the back nine.

The yardage marking system consists of large colored balls off the sides of the fairways and markings on the cart paths from distances of 100, 150 and 200 yards to the greens center as well as sprinkler heads on all par fours and fives. Red, white, and blue flags provide daily pin placement information with front middle and back hole-locations.

On course there are only 22 sand bunkers located mostly greenside and are fairly flat and easy to up and down from. The putting surfaces themselves are mildly sloping from back to front with not much mounding in front to challenge the approach. Fairway bunkers are featured on only two-holes, the par four 8th and the par five 16th the and the landing zones are wide open off the tees. Water is featured throughout the layout, but it only comes into play on three holes. The terrain of the front is fairly flat while the back nine is a little more scenic with plenty of elevation change and mounding.
