Kentucky Golf Course Review
Peninsula Golf Resort, in Lancaster located just southwest of Lexington, was designed by Pete Dye in 1997. This 6647 yard par 72 championship golf course is situated on 200 acres of rolling terrain with lush Bermuda fairways that sweep through natural contours producing breathtaking views. The course has been rated in the top 200 places to play in North America by Golf Digest with 4 ½ stars, and is ranked as one of the top ten courses in Kentucky.
The course is marked with plaques in the center of the fairways of all par fours and fives from distances of 100, 150, and 200 yards. The new state of the art EZ-GO golf carts include Par View GPS with accurate yardage information as well as pin placements which are changed daily. Yardage books are available and include a course map as well as hole-diagrams with useful info such as yardage from tees to bunkers to greens, green depths, and five possible hole locations.
On property is a beautiful two story clubhouse with a large balcony and a great view of the course, fully furnished luxurious villas, and a practice area. The clubhouse features a pro shop, snack bar, and a large banquet room which seats up to 144 people. Practice facilities include a targeted grass driving range and a large practice green. Villas are fully furnished with 2 bedrooms (4 double beds), 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, living room with fireplace, patio with grill, and a washer and dryer.
The links style course has large landing zones with mounded natural long grass areas near the manicured fairways. The ground is mostly flat near the greens which are guarded well by bunkers. The medium sized putting complexes are fairly flat for the most part with a small amount of slope. Only the first two holes feature water hazards, but the course is well represented by sand. There are a total of 59 soft sand bunkers situated along the fairways and greenside.
Four sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 6647 yards/124 slope, 6082 yards/ 119 slope, 5049 yards with a slope of 115 for women playing from the forward tees, and 5519 yards from the middle tees with no slope available. The slopes seem slightly low for the distances each tee box plays from due to the wide landing zones and lack of hazards. Players of any skill level can enjoy a relaxing enjoyable round at this outstanding upscale facility.
